AtmosFEARfx Jack-O-Lantern Jamboree

Have you ever been to the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland? As you are leaving the graveyard, there are four busts singing the Grim Griming Ghosts song. AtmosFEARfx has brought this same idea to Jack-O-Lanterns in the Jack-O-Lantern Jamboree.

This is an incredible effect that will entertain trick-or-treaters of all ages, young and old. The DVD provides projection videos specifically for projecting jack-o-lanterns directly onto your pumpkins with songs and scary stories. It really brings them to life with each jack-o-lantern emanating charismatic personalities. On top of the great entrainment they provide, you don’t have to make a mess on your kitchen table cutting out templates that never look as good as they do in the picture.

If you are not planning on projecting onto pumpkins, the DVD also contains videos for window projections with amazing backgrounds as well as videos to play on your TV.

Below is a video of the DVD interface to give you an idea of what you can expect.

Pumpkin Projection

This portion of the video is really the highlight. Projecting a jack-o-lantern animation onto pumpkins brings them to life. Each video seamlessly transitions into the next keeping the continuity real. There are three memorable characters. Of the chorus, you have the alto who is also the main narrator for the scary stories, a shy and scared soprano, and a lovable and scary bass.

The videos include 2 songs, 2 stories, and a video of the jack-o-lanterns making funny faces. Between all the projection videos, they all ad up to almost 9 minutes of entrainment. This may cause a crowd, but that just gives you more time to adore the cute kids in costumes as their faces light up with excitement.

Pumpkin Projection Setup

The video below shows the creative setup for this provided by Erie Acres Cemetery in Florida. Note that there is a second video with a slightly modified setup, but this video demonstrates a basic setup to give you the general idea. I would highly suggest you subscribe to their channel for great Halloween tips. In this video, a small pico projector (3M 32 lumen pocket projector) is used and has been said that it works well. I contacted AtmosFEARfx about the projector requirements, and they recommend using a 2,000 lumen projector for best results. The more light that bleeds onto your display, the more lumens you will need to overpower the light pollution. Check out this list of projectors to help you get started.

Depending on your technical ingenuity, this can be an easy setup or a difficult setup. Note that as of the writing of this blog post, according to AtmosFEARfx support, the DVDs are not formatted to work with Blu-ray players.

Setup

  • If you purchased the DVD, you will need either a laptop or DVD player to play the videos.
  • Plug the video player (laptop/dvd player) into the projector.
  • Unless you plan on using the speakers in your projector, plug the audio out of the video player into powered speakers or a boombox with audio inputs. If your projector has RCA audio outputs and you need a minijack audio input on your speakers, you can buy an adapter.
  • Turn on the projector and adjust the distance and focus if needed. For the best audio results, be sure to point your speakers away from the pumpkins as if the audio was being projected from their mouths.
  • Hide the projector so the illusion is not ruined.

Window Projection

This DVD also contains videos for window projections. They provide two different backgrounds to give you a variety in display. The window projection videos contain the same songs, stories, and funny faces as the pumpkin projection, but include the backgrounds. Setup for the window display is less complicated.
